  5. Huge efforts were made to write the Poseidon USB Stack. These efforts  were
  6. largely  supported by the manufacturer and vendor of the Highway and Subway
  7. USB cards E3B and also by bPlan, delivering several pieces USB hardware and
  8. large  amounts  of  chocolate.  This  software  therefore is sold along the
  9. Highway and Subway USB cards and included for the onboard  USB  chipset  of
  10. the Pegasos.

  12. In my opinion it would be pretty unfair to give this software away for free
  13. to  other USB board or PCI bridge manufacturers (as they would only need to
  14. write a hardware driver for the publically documented hardware interface to
  15. benefit  from  all the class drivers and other software included). However,
  16. it also would be unfair to demand from each  manufacturer  to  licence  the
  17. software package, when there is some other software included already.

  19. Therefore, Poseidon has  to  be  registered  by  acquiring  a  single  user
  20. licence,  whenever  there  is  no  OEM  licence for a hardware driver. This
  21. keyfile is not very expensive (see below) in my opinion.

  23. If the licence is missing, Poseidon will operate  in  demo  mode.  In  this
  24. mode,  the  stack  can  be checked for functionality, but will stop working
  25. after a short  time  (you  will  start  getting  "response  timeout"  error
  26. messages).

  28. ATTENTION: Users of the Highway, Subway and Algor boards  do  NOT  need  to
  29. register!

  32. IOSpirit (http://www.iospirit.com) aswell. Using the online registration it
  33. is also possible to use credit card payment.
